Several years ago I discovered how implementing a board self-evaluation process can significantly enhance governance and oversight. By introducing a comprehensive evaluation form, board members can assess their performance across key areas such as: Governance, Financial Management, Strategic Planning, Fundraising, Board Development, Leadership, Evaluation, and Risk Management. Members and Leadership can use this self-assessment to encourage accountability and continuous improvement, ensuring the board's alignment with the organization's mission and goals. Utilizing feedback from these evaluations drives improvement and effectiveness, it will guide what training is needed for the Board to help the organization to a greater degree.
